Austin, the original “Weird” City

“There’s a freedom you begin to feel the closer you get to Austin, Texas” ~ Willie Nelson

Quite honestly, there are few cities as vibrant, interesting and colorful as Austin. Located along the Colorado River in Central Texas and bordering the Hill Country region, Austin is the state capitol and home to the University of TexasLonghorns.

It is widely known as the “Live Music Capital of the World” due in large part to the variety and vibrancy of its music scene. It is also famous for its food scene and mouth-watering barbeque, not to mention trend-setting restaurants and bars.

The city’s unofficial motto, “Keep Austin Weird” tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the city’s vibe and culture. The slogan was adopted by the Austin Independent Business Alliance in an effort to promote local business and everything indie. While several other cities across America have embraced the motto, make no mistake that its origin is here. Whether hippie or hipster, liberal or libertarian, hourly wage-worker or salaried professional, everyone is welcome in Austin! (And don’t forget to watch those Mexican free-tailed bats fly under the Congress Avenue Bridge).
