The main cities of the SF Peninsula

The region commonly known as “The Peninsula" (San Mateo County) is a string of suburbs and charming towns linked together by El Camino Real, the old "Royal Road." The coastal area is truly gorgeous and offers small town life, with easy access to big-city amenities.

The Peninsula is filled with a number of shopping centers, plazas, and tree-lined main streets notable for their pleasant cafes, boutiques, restaurants, and neighborhood stores. The moderate year-round climate, neighborly communities, abundant recreational activities, excellent regional transportation (Caltrain), and some of the best schools in California makes the Peninsula a desirable place to live.

San Mateo

A mid-Peninsula city, San Mateo offers a wide variety of housing and shopping opportunities. The bustling downtown runs along 3rd and 4th Avenues, between El Camino and the Caltrain Station, with Central Park nearby. Hillsdale Mall is the regional shopping center with large department stores and smaller specialty shops. Redwood City

The seat of San Mateo County, Redwood City, has a diverse population, evident in its neighborhoods. Redwood City is primarily comprised of: a port on the bay, industrial sites, numerous apartments, modest single family homes and exclusive neighborhoods along Edgewood Road and Highway 280, with many with impressive views.

Burlingame

Burlingame is a charming town with two Caltrain stations and two commercial centers — Broadway, the smaller, traditional shopping district and Burlingame Avenue, a more upscale shopping area with a number of boutiques and restaurants. Housing options here include apartments and single-family homes on tree-lined streets near the shopping district, or luxury hillside residences.

You can’t talk about Austin without talking music. Its cutting-edge live music scene is legendary and it’s everywhere. Austin’s music history dates back to the 70’s and 80’s and came out of clubs that became home to a new, eclectic landscape, embracing country, rock, blues, punk, soul, and roots. Artists like Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, and the Big Boys, (all patron saints of the movement), fed a growing club scene, that eventually led to the live music show known as Austin City Limits.

Today, ACL draws upwards of 450,000 people to Zilker Park. And if that weren’t enough, the city also hosts the SXSW Festival every March offering a unique opportunity to explore the worlds of Interactive, Film, Music, and Comedy with parties, awards, screenings, and showcases all over town. Music isn’t the only thing Austin has going for it in the way of arts and culture. It has an eclectic art scene that ranges from weird to modern to fine with food and drink to match.
